A quiet observation from the Lion Gardener. 🦁
Years ago, when we built our current home, the lot was just weedy lawn. At first, I thought of it as a blank canvas — and then came the question: “Where do I start?”
Sheets of ripped paper later, I was still stressing. Plants are expensive. Digging in the heat is not fun. The fear of doing all the work and ending up with nothing like my dream paralyzed me from getting anything done in the garden.
I decided to start in the front yard. I met all the neighbours passing by, and that only made my anxiety worse.
Mother Nature, however, was landscaping for me. Even though the weeds had pretty flowers, it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.
I realized: if things didn’t look right, I could always move them again. Someone even suggested adding wheels to my plants — which would make moving them easier.
That was over ten years ago. Today, my plants and trees are home to rabbits and birds. The trees and shrubs look beautiful. The stress I felt was real, even though I had planned everything carefully on paper.
The moral of the story? Just do it. The worst that could happen is that you’ll be in great shape by the end of the growing season — and you’ll have learned something, even if things aren’t perfect.
